I watched CopShop last night 👍It was a fast paced film and definitely better than I thought it would be 👍👍👍👍 Good flick 🎥 (admittedly not my choice of genre). I think Alexis’s had the starring role in the movie the script was definitely written for her character to be the heroine. Gerry and Frank were in supporting roles.
I really think if anyone edited Frank Grillo’s role as Teddy it was Joe Carnahan and the writers not the editors. Grillo’s character was written to be thin.. you were meant to be kept in the dark on who he was and why killers are after him. We knew who Gerry’s character was from the first scene a “hitman” and he could play to that character.
Taking a stand for creativity is understandable but this wasn’t the type of movie you would expect that stand to be taken since the end result was a fun ride for audiences not Oscar bait. Carnahan needs to fully produce his own movies if his creativity can’t be compromised because it isn’t right to walk away from a film leaving your investors to see a failure at the box office. It is unethical.

Unethical and unprofessional. With the way he's dissed the film, he'll be lucky to ever have anyone else work with him, he'll get his wish. Gerry on the other hand continues his career and is appreciated for what he brings to the whole process by others in the industry 😊

What is even more sad about this move by these two is that the movie was made during the pandemic and was able to be released now when restrictions on the theaters were finally lifted. Audiences were slowly going back into theaters.. which makes this apparent ego trip reaction being an even more despicable. So many people were involved in losing profits not in the least the 3,000 theater operators who lost money providing those screenings. unprofessional is an understatement - I wonder if they could be in jeopardy legally for that move from that long list of producers.

I Woke up to this good news for CopShop 👏 Love On Streaming
Mid budget action titans Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo squaring off for the first time in an R-rated thriller from Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnahan sounds like catnip for fans of the genre, but that couldn’t stop Copshop from bombing at the box office. Despite a strong Rotten Tomatoes score of 81% and an audience rating of 76%, Copshop could only open in sixth place in its opening weekend, and the movie’s total haul sits at just a shade over $6 million. The good news is that the cops and criminals caper is finding the audience it deserves on VOD having been available since Friday, where it’s finally finding As per FlixPatrol, Copshop is currently the ninth most popular movie on Amazon, continuing Butler’s track record for seeing his output play well on streaming. Greenland dominated the most-watched charts for weeks when it landed last summer, as did Grillo’s Boss Level, so you put the two together in their element and a long-lasting life on VOD was virtually guaranteed. Copshop finds both leads playing steadfastly against type, with Butler as a villainous hitman and Grillo playing the weaselly conman, and while subverting the expectations of their respective fanbases is one of the movie’s strongest suits, it’s relative newcomer Alexis Louder who arguably steals the show.wegotthiscovered.com/movies/gerard-butlers-new-movie-is-finding-lots-of-love-on-streaming/

A new review 7 out of 10 quote “Copshop is unpretentiously confident pulp crime entertainment, with Butler and Grillo having an absolute blast as two colourful criminals at the heart of the tale, and upcomer Alexis Louder threatening to steal the show as the perhaps surprisingly resourceful John McClane of the scenario. Indeed, Carnahan absolutely nails his quirky bunch of characters, throwing in a terrific turn from Toby Huss (Apple TV+'s Dickinson) as a wonderfully theatrical psycho hitman who single-handedly generates the most laughs. Reportedly the director's returning leading man - Boss Level's Frank Grillo - has been quite vocal about the edits done to reduce the prominence and dynamic of his supporting character, perhaps hoping that these two films would have had more of an impact on his career, and frustrated that one was delayed then put out on streaming, and the other has been moderated to perhaps downplay his really quite integral role. Fingers crossed the upcoming biopic on Ferruccio Lamborghini will be the lead Grillo flick everybody - especially him - has been waiting for, but he's still good fun in Copshop, although Butler does chew scenery much better, enjoying letting his mischievously dangerous side shine in a role closer to Den of Thieves than Greenland or the Fallen trilogy.” full review here— www.avforums.com/reviews/copshop-movie-review.19188

Unfortunately, CopShop did not get a 2nd week streaming bounce it dropped off the top 10 list for google and on Vudu chart it dropped to #10 from #5. No interest in the film and I blame that there was no late night talk shows and entertainment shows appearances. Sad since the movie has a 82% on RT. Looks like Carnahan and Grillo got want they wanted - the movie to flop! www.yahoo.com/entertainment/two-cannes-favorites-debut-outside-223013911.html

If you have Spectrum tv you can rent Copshop for $6.99. I think you get it for 48 hours so you watch it more than once,

Great post Gerry looks so great such a tough job filming during Covid. And such a shame the release of the film didn’t open without controversy.
