A second Article on the news of Greenland skipping a theater release and being released via Amazon Prime.
I don’t know how I feel about this for it will affect Gerry’s career Box Office totals. The movie will now look like a loser for Gerry because no matter how high the digital release It will not be reflected In the box office totals. So far the movie has made only half of the production budget.
personally I am happy I will get to see it digitally because I would not be going to a theater unless there is a vaccine for the virus, but I so much wanted Gerry’s movie to be well received and be a box office success.

I wouldn't feel comfortable going to a cinema with my health problems. I wish it wasn't so but it is scary out there now.

Mixed feelings over this announcement. Like you said it won't count towards the numbers with digital release which absolutely bites 😖 but people want to see his movie and stay safe. For me I would have gone to the theater, protective gear and distanced of course, but I would have gone. I had been watching the listing and there was a theater about 45 mins away that had it scheduled... he's worth the trip! I fully respect everyone's own take if going isn't right for them. I am just sad for him since he's got this great film and it's not going to be big screen. Who knows, maybe once this pandemic is controlled they'll re-release some films in theaters.... I'm good with that 🤗🤗🤗

I just hope STX will pay for promotion of this digital release big time! I read in one article that the blu-ray dvd release of Angel has Fallen made $20 Million for Lionsgate. That same result would only take profits to meet production cost and only if Greenland can make it to 24 million internationally. so sad 😞 for all involved..wish they could have waited until 2021 to release the film. Very little profits to be made on this film now. Darn...🦠🦠🦠🦠.. has changed the entire world and too many lives are being loss.

The only thing you can take from this is that Gerry isn't being singled out for this. This is happening to all the new movies and how all are being impacted financially.

Deadline has a new article on Greenland and the money it has made so far is very good. Hbo has paid between 20 and 30 million for it. Plus it said it has already made 45 million.

I was busy yesterday, and just caught up on publicity over the Greenland release. Forbes writer Scott Mendelson had this to say. Excerpts— “We got word this morning that, yes, STX Entertainment’s Greenland is skipping theaters in America (and a few other territories) after earning a solid $45 million from combined theatrical overseas grosses since rolling out in late July and what is reportedly an HBO pay TV deal worth $20-$30 million. The Gerard Butler/Morena Baccarin, about a family struggling to stay together and survive as an extinction-sized comet races toward Earth, will debut on PVOD before the end of the year and on HBO and HBO Max in early 2021“ “.. . Greenland, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch, Angel Has Fallen), is a pretty decent disaster movie (with an exceptionally engrossing first act), but the film was expected to make most of its money overseas anyway. Geostorm bombed in North America with $33 million in late 2017 but earned $221.6 million worldwide. That wasn’t good enough on a $120 million budget, but it would have been a massive win on a smaller Den of Thieves/Angel Has Fallen over/under $40 million budget. Butler is a genuine “butts in the seats” movie star as long as the movie can succeed with an opening closer to $15 million than $35 million. Den of Thieves earned $80.5 million worldwide in early 2018 on a $30 million budget, and a sequel is technically in development.“. www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2020/10/01/why-borat-2-the-craft-legacy-and-gerard-butlers-greenland-skipped-theaters/#1fe2c3664f3eNice to see someone who does appreciate Gerry’s star power, Hollywood seems to ignore it unfortunately.

A quick review [6.75/10] Greenland (2020) Greenland (2020) Quick Review: A constantly tense, tautly-paced, and often truly moving thrill-ride of a disaster film with real gritty tone and apocalyptic feel that, apart from a few sentimental bits, is totally devoid of any cheese at all, "Greenland" focuses mostly on the world mayhem caused by the comet than the destructive event itself, and although the 'crashing' action keeps you on the edge of your seat, the true force of nature is Butler's bold, wholehearted protagonist, who risks it all to secure his family. www.cinemarvellous.com/2020/09/67510-greenland-2020.html

I hope Greenland is going to be released in India, I haven’t seen a release date for it.. but saw this brief review on net from India Times. 3,5 stars Synopsis Greenland is a slow-burning, mature and nuanced take on a life-altering and destructive fictional event that is all too familiar in today’s time. It’s as grounded as it is gritty, leaving you emotionally heavy and cinematically satisfied.

The international total for this weekend has not been detailed yet by Deadline Hollywood, but Box Office Mojo has posted a new total edited to note ..Deadline Hollywood details All Releases DOMESTIC (–) – INTERNATIONAL (100%) $23,800,000 WORLDWIDE $23,800,000 This is $6 million added this weekend 😀. . I wonder if they should have made a run in the U.S. they could made at least $20 million and then still obtained a good deal for a digital release. Well this international total During a pandemic is good news for Gerry.

You have to go to Newshub to see a video interview Gerry did for Greenland. It is typical bad boy Gerry, gotta love him.
