I cry everytime I hear Mameli's Hymn, especially when I think of the jackals eating up my poor Italy these days, and without a fail everytime I see photos of Rome or the Appennini and sea side of Lazio. When I went to Scotland I found that its people are very similar to us from Rome; tough cookies on the outside and silly sentimentals on the inside, I spent some days working in Glasgow many years ago, and my first friend when I moved in UK was a chap from Perth, lovely lovely old guy who stuck on me the habit of calling girls "lass", and whose friendliness has made my first months in UK less lonely. We used to joke that both Rome and Glasgow are sitting on seven hills and that we both pronounce the double RR as a single letter, very odd and funny fact. There's an old Scots saying "we're a' Jock Tamson's bairns" which translated means "We are all God's children" (you might have known that God would be a Scotsman, lol) and the more you get to know people from other countries the more you come to realise that we have more in common than we have differences. I don't think that Glasgow has seven hills but Edinburgh is certainly built on seven hills. Abbey, Calton, Castle grand, Southward see St Leonards stand, St Johns and Sciennes as two are given, And Multrees makes Seven. Sciennes (pronounced sheens) is a corruption of Sienna and takes it's name from the convent of St. Catherine of Sienna. It's actually Siena, not Sienna but it seems that in english speaking countries it gets changed in Sienna. I must have got confused then, I remember John -my friend from Perth- telling me about the hills, you could be right tho, i will check on google because I am curious now and anything to do with history is my bread and nutella!

i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/03/19/article-0-18C432AB000005DC-235_634x538.jpg I know this is a thread is dedicated to Gerard's mother but thought that perhaps his stepfather should be mentioned as well. Mr. Coll must be a very special man as well. He took on a three children. I don't know the time line when he married Margaret or how old the siblings were but I am sure there were many trials involved with caring for them. Gerry in himself must have been a handful with his mischievous window smashing etc. [teenagehood]. Then of course the dealing with his biological father showing up. It couldn't have been an easy time for him. Who payed for Gerard to spend summers in Canada? The wonderful thing about it is that Gerard seems to have a good relationship with him and speaks of playing golf with him, supportive of his career etc. So just what we know and read they have a good relationship and that says much for the stepfather in my opinion. I must say that I am curious about that relationship. What they talk about, if he has councelled Gerard in his youth and if he still does. All that intrigues me and guess I will have to remain curious.

thanks so much guest, is a wonderful idea ....
I think Alex deserves all possible respect, has raised three sons and when the Gerry's biological father was in town, he brought his youngest son to him ....
I think Gerry is still grateful to Alex for all (and you can see it by the way Gerry is still strongly linked to his mother and Alex) and this is a wonderful thing

This is very interesting, I wonder what prompted this interview.. Maybe Mary's Meals? How am I am not surprised to hear that Gerry's Mom is as cheeky as Gerry .. I noticed this film company filmed Gerry's visit to Haiti http://instagr.am/p/BrihtMdn7WL
