Box office mojo updated the International total today great news the movie added an additional $6million great to see that new worldwide total… 👏👏. But, hopefully that international total can increase to a total of $20 million 🤞🤞so the movie can break $50 million. Domestic run is just about reached its max which should be $30 million 🤞hopefully they won’t decrease the theaters again for this weekend so it can reach $30 million.
Grosses DOMESTIC (70.6%) $29,278,117
INTERNATIONAL (29.4%) $12,216,952
WORLDWIDE $41,495,069

Disappointing that Plane’s theater count had a deep cut again for this weekend — so it is going to be harder to get to $30 million this weekend. 🤞
** Plane - Lionsgate —theater count 2/10 — 1,679 - (a loss of 524 from Last week’s 2,203)

Does anybody know how they tally the PPV money on a movie. Do they only credit the box office. It cost 20 million to make and it has least made all that money back, minus advertising. It was quoted in that interview that it was the highest indie film since covid hit. Thanks, Terryann, for the interview.

It is ridiculous how many different production cost numbers are out there for Plane, when it was released Lionsgate reported that the film was produced for the low 20’s and Variety reported $25 million. Promoting the film was also projected in the low $20 million. the 2020 product budget for the film was at $50 million and did not get filmed because of COVID insurance issues so Lionsgate exited the project. The film got back on track for production in July 2021 and Lionsgate came on board and filming location was changed to Puerto Rico. this today from Lionsgate link www.mediaplaynews.com/lionsgate-expediting-pvod-window-for-2023-theatrical-slate/Quote - Lionsgate Expediting PVOD Window for 2023 Theatrical Slate ERIK GRUENWEDEL February 13, 2023 Share on Facebook Tweet Send email Lionsgate is looking at shortening the PVOD window for at least some of its 2023 theatrical movies, executives with the Santa Monica, Calif.-based studio-distributor hinted on the company’s Feb. 9 fiscal call. Instead of waiting 45 days after their box office debut for retail distribution, Lionsgate may move up by as much as half some of its 13 theatrical films’ digital premium VOD rent ($19.99) and premium electronic sellthrough ($24.99) release. Executives pointed to the airplane hostage drama Plane, co-starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter, which was released on premium digital channels Feb. 3 — just 21 days after the thriller’s Jan. 13 box office bow. Plane has generated $43 million globally, including $30.7 million across North American screens. “Plane got this year’s film slate off to a great start,” CEO Jon Feltheimer said on the call. “It outperformed expectations at the domestic box office and in nearly every one of our international territories. And by pivoting to a PVOD release date three weeks after its theatrical release, we’re creating an outsized contributor that illustrates our ability to create bespoke business models, new and more efficient marketing approaches, and alternative distribution strategies.” not sure how they count the VOD profits but I think we will see numbers posted by Lionsgate in the near future. The new sequel “ship” as of right now is not being picked up by Lionsgate.. but that could change about the marketing campaign at the film festivals.

totals from Box Office Mojo for Plane as of 2/13, a little disappointing looks like the UK # is a little low and no new updates on a lot of regions. I think the POV move stopped the momentum internationally. Well no chance now to see that worldwide total move much higher now maybe to 45 Million total worldwide. 🤞
All Releases DOMESTIC (70%) $30,925,877
INTERNATIONAL (30%) $13,275,601
WORLDWIDE $44,201,478

Oliver has been casted for the sequel. Ok, is he portraying his role in Plane or will he change his look to do a new role?

Very good VOD streaming news regarding profits….article here www.indiewire.com/2023/02/plane-m3gan-top-vod-charts-play-theaters-first-1234809393/Quote “Studios that utilized theaters to boost PVOD prospects saw their efforts pay off this week. The $19.99 “Plane” (Lionsgate) and “M3GAN” (Universal) lead the VOD charts, followed by Christmas titles “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (Universal/$24.99) and “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody” (Sony/$19.99). With studios recouping $14 or more from each transaction, that’s a bonanza — especially with three of those films still in the box office top 10. Synergy at last!“Plane” is #1 on iTunes and Vudu, #2 on Google Play, with the order reversed for “M3GAN.” “Puss” is #3 on Google Play, fourth on the others. “Whitney,” new this week, is #3 on Vudu and #7 on iTunes. It has yet to chart at Google Play (which often lags), but perhaps it isn’t helped by the site listing it as a “documentary.” “Triangle of Sadness” (Neon/$6.99) took the #3 spot at iTunes.

Well, Plane’s run domestically has come to its end this weekend. The new Ant Man movie will be released to almost 5,000 theaters and Magic Mike has be expanded to almost 4,000 screens. This has pushed the theater count for Plane down to 578 a lost of -1,101 theaters. Glad it made it over $30 million domestically… but I hope it will make it to $50 million internationally.

Bad news on theater counts for this weekend.. Plane will only be in 100 theaters.. thursdays box office did not bring its total to $32million .. it made it to $31,975,082. It only needs to get $25,000 but with only 100 theaters it probably won’t make more than $20,000. I still would love to see that total at $32million. no matter what, it did great considering the limited PR the film got .. Gerry did as much as he could, Lionsgate did not,
