![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Box office from a France - Deadline Hollywood deadline.com/2020/08/china-1917-interstellar-dolittle-ford-v-ferrari-greenland-international-box-office-1203007208/“And, STX’s Gerard Butler-starrer Greenland had a strong opening in France on Wednesday with 31K admissions for a take of $250K. The start was 8% ahead of Angel Has Fallen and 61% ahead of Olympus Has Fallen — and that’s with capacity and screening restrictions. Despite a heatwave throughout most of the country, the film added another 22.5K admissions on Thursday in further testament to the taste for something new.”
Great start!

Positive Box Office numbers from France for the weekend ![5223](http://www.allsmileys.com/files/smiley-central-communicate/5223.gif) - according to Deadline Hollywood... ‘1917’ Leads China Weekend; Korea Has Yet Another Hit With ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ & ‘Greenland’ Makes Hay In France – International Box Officequote— STX’s Greenland was the No. 1 movie in France this weekend with a $1.09M debut at 485 locations. That’s on par with Angel Has Fallen, 8% over Olympus Has Fallen and 46% above Den Of Thieves, all of which also starred Gerard Butler. The action thriller from Ric Roman Waugh had over 20% market share in France with cinemas running at 50% capacity and reduced showtimes. A further testament to fresh titles bringing audiences out — and despite a major heatwave affecting most of the country.
In total, Greenland added $1.14M from 540 offshore locations in the session, including $55K in Belgium. The international box office cume is $1.25M ahead of openings in such markets as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam next weekend. ”

Variety was not as hopeful for the box office success for Greenland because it cost $34 million to make, but I was happy to see it was not the $47 million reported on Wikipedia.. I wish they could have waited until 2021 to release the film because there is an audience for this genre and - unless the bankers were knocking down the door- it could make a decent profit. Gerry must be feeling very stressed. Hoping the next 11 territories can bring in another $3-5 million and the U.S. can open enough theaters in September.

Gerard Butler tops French box office While local titles have dominated the French box office since the country’s cinemas reopened in late June, the weekend saw the first chart-topper for a US live-action film in this period. STX action thriller Greenland, starring Gerard Butler, has opened in first place for the August 5-9 five-day weekend, with 148,000 admissions and a market share above 20% Greenland’s haul of 148,000 admissions compares with 77,000 ticket purchases for teen comedy T’as Pecho? when it topped the French chart a week ago. It’s the highest single-frame admissions since Divorce Club topped the chart in mid-July with 204,000 tickets sold. This coming weekend, Greenland opens in 11 new markets: Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, French-speaking Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam. Butler reteams with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh in the thriller, in which a family fights for survival as a comet races to Earth. www.screendaily.com/news/deliver-us-from-evil-greenland-provide-bright-spots-at-international-box-office/5152221.article
