International Box Office.. moving slowly but almost now at production budget of 34 million this weekend. from Deadline Hollywood.. “ Greenland from STX, debuted in Germany and South Africa at No. 1. The full weekend is $1.94M from 2,161 locations for an estimated international cume of $33.6M. Germany took to the Gerard Butler-starrer with $949K (including previews) from 517 locations. That’s 7% ahead of Angel Has Fallen, on par with London Has Fallen, and 46% ahead of Olympus Has FallenIn South Africa, the $68K debut is tops since cinemas reopened in the region“

Darn Virus 🦠 Germany is having to do another shutdown, movie theaters will be closed which means it will be the end of Greenland’s run. They had already announced Italy’s theater closures and this morning France is shuttering theaters also. I guess the move to VOD will be moved up in these countries for the film. Definitely Looking like there is no way to mitigate this pandemic, lockdowns are only temporary and it seems opening up slowly doesn’t keep it from spreading fast. I think a vaccine is important, but I think more attention should be made to developing treatments for a early symptom Treatment like the flu drug Tamaflu in the U.S. to keep down the severity of the flu virus. 🙏 for a cure.

Greenland managed to clear its production budget total of $34 million this weekend, now the new lockdowns will start so I am not sure where it will be released next - but for certain Germany, Italy, France will be closing all theaters. According to Box Office Mojo: All Releases DOMESTIC (–) – INTERNATIONAL (100%) $36,200,000 WORLDWIDE $36,200,000

Deadline Hollywood reports:
“STX’s Greenland added $1.77M from 1,645 offshore locations for an international cume to date of $36.2M. Austria opened to No. 1, taking the total markets where the Gerard Butler-starrer has bowed atop the charts to 27. In Germany, Greenland increased by 17% and has now cumed $2.24M, outpacing all comps.”
great to read that the movie was #1 in 27 markets I wish though that it could have made more at the box office.. darn 🦠

Sadly in this environment, no movie is going to make a lot of money. But the fact that Greenland has made production cost and is #1... WooHoo! Way to go 🤗🤗🤗

Checking the release date schedule on IMDb and I found some good news Greenland will be released in mainland China. . I hope it does well! Here are the release dates, I am surprised though to see France has a blu-ray release before US internet release. Mexico 19 November 2020 China 20 November 2020 Turkey 27 November 2020 France 5 December 2020 (blu-ray release) USA 18 December 2020 (internet) If Greenland can score at least $20 million in China that will take it to over $50 million internationally. And with the HBO and VOD platforms it would be a good outcome especially due to the virus shutdowns everywhere.

Gerry looks like a giant in that pic. I just sometimes forget how big. He looks amazing. I just looked up Scott Glenn, I didn't realize he is 81 yrs young. He is a good actor.

Great news.. I hope they like the film and Greenland Can get at least 20 million in China. 😀 I checked Box Office in China for a Tenet and the film was released in 22,000 theaters for an opening weekend of 29 million total box office and in 4 weeks total was $60 million. I don’t see Greenland getting more than half of Tenets box office since it is later for a 12,000 theater opening. I am hoping there could be a $30 million total by its 4 week run.

Box office mojo updated Greenland’s international total to
INTERNATIONAL (100%) $38,100,000 WORLDWIDE $38,100,000
This is just a $600,000 increase but since theaters were closed in Germany,Italy, France, and more areas this is good.

Disappointing box office in China Greenland only made $7 million and was in 4th place. Not sure but box office mojo only added $5 million from lasts weeks 38.1 million, I noticed that the reviews are getting more and more negative since the movie doesn’t fit the expected disaster movie template for the younger generation is use to. It is down to 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb. I just know why it is that Gerry can’t get better reviews for his films. I think it could be his films are not produced at a high enough production cost to give a more finished film?? Special effects seem to be a problem.
INTERNATIONAL (100%) $43,100,000 WORLDWIDE $43,100,000
edited to up-draw from Deadline Hollywood-
“Also new to China was STX’s Greenland which was released locally by CFG and JL Vision. The Gerard Butler thriller opened behind Caught In Time and The Sacrifice (the latter having crossed RMB 1B this week to take its cume to $161.5M through Sunday). Greenland picked up $3.4M in China on over 14K screens, performing better than some other recent Hollywood entries, but still lower than may have been hoped particularly as Butler excels in the market. Greenland is carrying just a 5.7 on reviews site Douban and a 7.9 on Maoyan, and piracy is likely a factor here. It also faced competition from Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups, now with $9.6M through its second frame.
(While China has significantly bounced back since cinemas reopened in July, imported titles are suffering from limited promotion and marketing time — as well as not being able to bring talent to the market.)
In total this session, Greenland picked up $4.83M for an offshore cume of $43.1M. It was No. 1 in Mexico with $882K from 788 locations, bringing to 28 the total number of markets where Greenland has bowed atop the charts”
