Came across this old review of 300 from the time of the film's release.

Great to read praise about GB, Leonidas is still his most acclaimed performance.

"Gerard Butler is outstanding as Leonidas, at least as good and perhaps even better that Crowe and Gibson. He has a great set of lungs that he uses to bark out his commands in his Scottish accent. The guy is ripped beyond belief. He must have been doing 300 sit ups a day to get a set of abs like that. In fact him and the 299 other Spartan soldiers all walk around with their washboard abs, more or less half-naked and with not a single pube on their entire body for pretty much the whole movie. It's really quite depressing for a guy like me to have to sit there and watch that as I mow down on a tub of popcorn (with butter)."
