Terryann, go to screen rant and do a search on his name and the newer one will come up. I found that article.. different author than the one who reviewed the movie screenrant.com/kandahar-movie-rotten-tomatoes-score-gerard-butler-record/just disgusting how this guy sensational Gerry’s RT critic ratings only then to end the article with a sub-heading article below…. Just not fair… The Last Five Years Have Still Been Great for Gerard Butler
Although this Kandahar score marks a rather negative milestone, it comes during a time of career resurgence for Butler. His Rotten films have largely come in a long string in the center of his career. Although his star-making performance in The Phantom of the Opera was deemed Rotten, his starring role in Zack Snyder's 300 earned him his third-ever Fresh score, which was followed over the next few years by better-regarded films such as RocknRolla and How to Train Your Dragon. Kandahar unfortunately seems more in line with his disregarded action vehicles like Gamer, Law Abiding Citizen, and Geostorm. However, it is just a blip in a recent resurgence that began in the last five years. In 2018, Butler came back in full force with The Vanishing, a film that was rated 85 percent after a string of seven Rotten titles in a row. Following that film, Butler scored additional Fresh titles with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Greenland, Copshop, and Plane. This means that, in spite of Kandahar's critical failure, he is in the most robust period of his career since the late 2000s. In fact, nearly 40 percent of his Fresh titles have come out in the last five years, and there could very well be even more on their way soon.

Gerry seems to have a never-ending bullseye on his back. I think if he ever gets a film without drama connected to it, he will pass out from shock. I wish he would resolve his fight with Ari and maybe things would improve. I still give him a lot of credit that he fights for what is right for him. I think Kandahar will do better internationally like most of Gerry's film do. The critics always seem to like to take pot shots at him and his films.

Box office for Kandahar is meager… looking like CopShop totals domestically release but it had a big wide release at 3,100 theater for at least 10 days total $5,001,849 after 14 days theater counts went to 425 sites for 1 week and 2 more drops so total domestic run $5,213,000.. international $1,593,915 WORLDWIDE $6,807,158. …. budget for CopShop was reported to be under $5 million, so it made money with streaming. CopShop stats here www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl2667676417/?ref_=bo_tt_gr_1. Rollout. Kandahar DOMESTIC (86.8%) $3,129,815 INTERNATIONAL (13.2%) $475,942 WORLDWIDE $3,605,757 You can check out the domestic and international regions at www.boxofficemojo.com/releasegroup/gr3934540293/?ref_=bo_rl_su

Gosh, I think all those bad reviews from audiences at early screenings has really tanked this movie… box office for Wednesday was only. $200,000. Domestically… No new total for International gross. Grosses DOMESTIC (87.5%) $3,329,868 INTERNATIONAL (12.5%) $475,942 WORLDWIDE $3,805,810 www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl1375503105/?ref_=bo_da_table_7

That was their dumb promotion, too many screenings. This was the most lack luster of promotion ever for this film.

I wish that the distributor would invest in a few tv ads for this weekend .. the theater counts have remained the same — note: Kandahar Briarcliff Entertainment 2,105 2,105 … the film deserves a push this weekend by Gerry! When he promoted Plane he did local tv news shows for the 2nd weekend release. Why not this film??
oh goodness… Kandahar only made (7) Kandahar Briarcliff E… $142,019 theaters 2,105 per screen $67 total ..$3,471,887 what the heck is going on…there were enough positive reviews at 47% rating —look at the RT ratings for Has Fallen series…. Olympus Has Fallen had a 50z, London Has Fallen 27%, Angel Has Fallen 39%.
The difference could only be the early screenings and social media comments who it looked like they took a tantrum because they had a endure 35 min set up of characters for the films spy plot, they would have been smarter to don’t do early screenings spending the money on tv ads to get as many Gerry and action fans in the theater on the opening weekend and then let the negative reviews to fall where they would.
just such a shame… and if that movie was the most expensive film made in Saudi Arabia. Since the movie Lawrence of Arabia.like they reported in that feature article, this is a major loss for Gbase and I don’t see how they can recover amount from streaming.

This is so disappointing.. look at the new promos for Kandahar link below.. they are nothing but random tweets ..
There are alleged negative “review bombing” for the Little Mermaid … makes you wonder if this happened to Kandahar.. the social media with influencers are a problem when it comes to movies now..I remember M3gan movie release — they had contests and dance promotions for the tween audiences on social media especially TicTok.

Deadline Hollywood has Kandahar #9. . And that the film did lose theaters Kanadahar (BR/OR) 1,737 (-368) theaters,Fri $225k (-76%) 3-day $750K (-68%) Total $4.2M/Wk 2 Unfortunately I can’t believe that this film turned out to be a major box office flop for Gerry. It seems impossible… . so now I can’t help but think this movie could cause the end of Gerry’s career making major motion pictures. I have never felt that way before even with Geo-Storm and Gods of Egypt… but due to Covid driving people to streaming films especially B- action films he has lost his place in the film business… .

Things have changed and he hasn't. He should have broadened the types of films he chose to do. He can't compete with the kids films no other actor can. Not only that the public has changed with age. His fans are being replaced with younger stars. He is a good actor but he has pigeon hold himself with just action movies. He also doesn't have the backing he once had.

Just so embarrassing and sad for Gerry, Kandahar only made a little over $700,000 for the entire weekend and a small comedy film with only 900 theaters beat it to take #9 at the box office and Kandahar was #10..
Estimated stats …. #10 Kandahar $765,000 -67.1% 1,737 -368 $440..domestic total $4,236,887
I can’t get my mind wrapped around Gerry not doing a press junket for the film.. Ric just didn’t have the popularity to pull in audiences.
Well personally, I have to feel this was the outcome Gerry expected and he didn’t want to bother prompting a film he knew was going to flop at the box office no matter how much he promotes it… And picking the Memorial Day weekend to release the film with Guardians of the Galaxy on its 3rd weekend release and Fast X second weekend.. they had to know it wasn’t going to find an audience if the film wasn’t getting great word of mouth reviews.

Maybe they decided to do not have any press after the bad reviews from all the screenings. I read around about the movie and apparently he is not the main character, he is more like a support character. I checked if it is scheduled in UK, but it's not in the Odeon in the city centre and not even in the cinema in my area.

Elsa, it doesn’t look they are having a theater release of Kandahar in the UK.. probably will be available when they start streaming.. Below is the Box office as of Monday 6/5…and a update on International box office.. so low It is hard to believe CopShop made more DOMESTIC (76.6%) $5,213,243INTERNATIONAL (23.4%) $1,593,915 WORLDWIDE $6,807,158. At least CopShop was released in over 3,000 theaters for 14 days before it had a major drop in theaters. KandaharGrosses DOMESTIC (83.8%) $4,305,480 INTERNATIONAL (16.2%) $834,037 WORLDWIDE $5,139,517

Budget for the movie is all over the place.. from 70 Million to this one from Boxoffice pro which I think is more in line for a Gbase production…. Regardless film is a flop at the box office.. Monies can be made through streaming but it I think it will be a tax loss write off. Boxoffice Pro www.boxofficepro.com › ... May 24, 2023 — Kandahar is rumored to cost around $37M to make and less than $15M to market. If that's true than it's total cost will be around $50M meaning it ...

Interesting … Screen Rant did a feature on the music composer of the sound track today..only problem video says it is private.. now why didn’t this get talked about before the movie was released. Kandahar Blends Musical Styles In New Track [EXCLUSIVE] BY OWEN DANOFF PUBLISHED 55 MINUTES AGO Exclusive: The Gerard Butler geopolitical thriller film Kandahar releases a new track by Emmy-nominated The Sandman composer David Buckley. quote— Kandahar is the latest film to turn an eye to the twenty-year U.S. War in Afghanistan. While led by action heavyweight Gerard Butler, Kandahar aims to inhabit the moral gray area the United States itself occupied for decades in a more slow-burning fashion. The authenticity of the geopolitical thriller film can be traced back to its screenplay, which was written by former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune.
