Interesting.. one of the production partners posted this on Facebook a few days ago.. it looks like a new narrative was seen needed— TeamFinity “A new action film to get excited for! Kandahar follows Gerard Butler as CIA operative Tom Harris who is effectively dismantling a nuclear programme. The film is moody and intimately immersive one moment, brutal, shocking and horrifying in the next. It manages to deliver high-octane action entertainment with both conscience and heart. 💥 Don’t miss #KandaharMovie in cinemas on 26 May 2023.

Saw it... loved it! Definitely worth seeing. Great job Gerry 👏👏👏 action, and personal depth... thoroughly enjoyed this film! Thanks..so great to hear you loved it…. I think its release is suffering from the lack of Gerry being out there to promote and explain the movie. I have never seen what looks like an almost a tantrum response to the movie. It should have been promoted maybe as a spy thriller? Unfortunately the action fanboys and the early screenings really hated it.

I get what Ric said about the helicopter scene... very intense and cool. It wasn't non-stop action, but it has enough it should've satisfied action goers. But it has so much more as well.... I really liked the emotional depth they filtered in... they did a really great job with it. And if my hubby, who is jealous of Gerry, really enjoyed the film you know it's a good one 😁 Go see it ladies! No matter the lack of promo, it's worth it!

Deadline Hollywood - Box office estimates for 4 day.wow this is so low..
7) Kandahar (OR/Briar) 2,105 theaters, Fri $550K 3-day $1.64M 4-day $2M /Wk 1 The meat and potatoes action movie is play for guys with the plan to get this pic straight into its ancillaries where it will make bank. Remember this happened with the Lionsgate/STX Guy Ritchie title Operation Fortune: Rules de guerre (which opened to $3.1M, ended at $6.4M after 21 days in theaters). Critics are at 43% Rotten, audiences better at 75%.
hoping that 75% audience rating will help word of mouth… the 43% is not great but an improvement over the zero% it started at two days ago. 👍. (Note Angel Has Fallen had only 39% critics but audience has 93% fresh)

Box office prediction up a little but having only 2,100 sites and so many choices Deadline Hollywood has this quote below.. note a B+ Cinema score but low score on recommending the film though
The Open Road/Briarcliff release of Gerard Butler’s Kandahar posted $920K yesterday, for what’s looking to be a $2.5M 3-day and 4-day of $3.1M at 2,105 theaters. Like Liam Neeson and Nic Cage, Butler just has a plethora of these meat and potato action films, and they’re no longer marquee draws. Theatrical is used simply to spur the downstream market. B+ CinemaScore, PostTrak at 75%, and a 36% recommend, with 61% guys showing up and 59% between 18-34, and 25-34 year olds the biggest quad at 34%. Diversity demos were 59% Caucasian, 12% Black, 11% Latino and Hispanic, and 17% Asian/other. Kandahar played soft everywhere but best in the West and South. The Regal Fresno saw the best gross on Friday at around $3K.
Sad, that they say action films are no longer marquee draws… what does that mean for Gerry’s career?

He knows because Greenland and Plane had more of a story than just action. DOT had action but it still had a story connected to it. If he still wants to do only action films than he won't be around much longer. He needs to look for dramas that may have some action but not to depend on just that. He has the talent to tell a story without a gun in his hand and he needs to look for stories that will highlight that. He also doesn't have the backing he used to have. When Plane got the fresh marks on Rt he was thrilled and now I think he is going to be disappointed with Kandahar.
If his movies don't get wide release with larger theater totals that also makes it harder for big numbers to be made by the films.

A post on JJ today from someone I never seen post before, is saying Gerry is no longer going to make movies only produce them, and saying the reason is his health.
Since Ric is announcing in the interviews his next project is not going to be Greenland2, but Stallone’s Cliffhanger. Personally, I don’t see why he wouldn’t do Greenland 2, unless it could be the financing for the film is the reason. Gerry has not had a box office win since Angel Has Fallen. Covid has really affected the movie industry and like Ric has been saying in his interviews also that he doesn’t want to relegated to do movies that are only going to be on streaming. Remember Greenland never opened in theaters in the U.S. due to Covid and only aired on streaming. I think that is why he is hitching his career to Stallone’s and Cliffhanger which they are planning expanding that movie to a next generation characters carrying on that franchise.

People on JJ don't know anything, they just trying to guess. Don't forget for many he was really sick and many talked like he was going to die. We don't know what kind of health problems he has, no one knows, only him and who is really, really close to him. I hate when the posters on JJ talk like they know everything and that they know him, like they are his best friends. They forget that what they have are only opinions, thoughts about an actor private life. http://instagram.com/p/CswJSBDoOz5

Elsa, you’re right we don’t know what is wrong with his health but it is true that Gerry was at the Mayo Clinic a year ago when Darius passed away. Then he returned after Darius’s funeral. He also returned to Mayo Clinic right after the promo for Plane was completed, photo posts from Rochester,Minneapolis in February. One person commented on one article about his visit and was upset with people stalking him and she commented that he is having treatment at the Mayo Clinic and deserved his privacy. Also, the movement of his projects like DOT has been stalled for an entire year.then he lost a producer member of G-base that was with him since he started G-Base just this year, so it is possible something is going on with his health causing it. Time will tell because after DOT2 will be done in June. So I am hoping we have good news. This from a news station in Minnesota. mix108.com/popular-movie-star-spotted-in-minnesota-again-over-the-weekend/

Everyone knows he was at Mayo Clinic more than ones, but still no one knows what kind of health problems he has and speculated that he was going to die is too much. We don't know anything and he is not going to say it. I think he is going to retire soon, no even only production, but I'm waiting that he will say something or just disappear one day. http://instagram.com/p/CswuXHBxOej

On Screen Rant there is an article about Gerry and his films based on RT rates. Kandahar gets pretty much trashed. They also compliment him on his recent successes.

I’m wondering if that Screen Rant was by a different author.. here is the one on Kandahar’s RT critics page - fresh rating and more positive comments than negative…. screenrant.com/kandahar-review/

They mentioned the last five years how he has been working more after the rom coms. It also noted the fresh films on RT against how most were not. When I log on my computer it goes to a news page where I saw it. I just looked for it again and I don't see it now. They mentioned 300 and the HTTYD films has fresh rated. They complimented him at the end even bringing up the Vanishing and how good he was in it.
