Finally some News! Gerard Butler Eyes Babak Najafi As ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Sequel Helmer
EXCLUSIVE: Looks like Gerard Butler won’t be alone for London Is Falling, the Millennium Films sequel to the action hit Olympus Has Fallen. Babak Najafi, best known for helming Easy Money II: Hard to Kill (better known as the sequel to Snabba Cash) is now in discussions to helm the action film that is being transplanted to the Blighty. This has been a hot open assignment since Charlie Countryman helmer Fredrik Bond bristled at the scale of the movie and exited. He got the job after the helmer of the original, Antoine Fuqua, didn’t like the sequel direction and decided not to take part. Several up and comers went after the job, and were rumored to be getting on a plane and heading to meet Butler. One was Wayne Blair, helmer of The Sapphires. Now, I’m told that the job will belong to Najafi is his reps at UTA and Magnolia can make the deal. Najafi made his directorial debut with Sebbe, which won Best Debut Film at Berlin in 2010. He has also directed episodes of Banshee. The original grossed $99 million domestic, and $161 million worldwide. Setting the action in an international front could improve the latter number.

Apparently a lot of up and commers were vying for the job, looks like this guy is one of them in negotiations. I wonder if LHF is on a tight budget, since they are trying to go with someone less experienced, it could be agood thing or bad. I guess we will just have to keep our fingers crossed that this project has a successful ending. smiley-signs007 smiley-signs003

Yeah, but even if he is born in Iran, he is probably a Swedish Citizen. Of course What do you think about this? As Maggiea said maybe they are lack of time and money for some bigger name...... But on the other hand maybe it's good decision..this should be his first big HW movie and he will give the best from himself..........

Troubled 'Olympus Has Fallen' Sequel Finds Director Olympus Has Fallen sequel London Has Fallen has a director.
Scandinavian helmer Babak Najafi, who directed the Snabba cash sequel Easy Money II: Hard to Kill is in talks to replace Fredrik Bond on the Millennium action movie.
Bond left over a week ago with the movie weeks away from shooting.
Millennium and star Gerard Butler immediately scrambled but last week, things were not looking good. Butler was not liking the directing prospects, and some sources say he was even mulling the idea of leaving the project.
Najafi, Wayne Blair (The Sapphires) and Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) were names that surfaced by mid-week, with Najafi pulling ahead into dealmaking mode.
If a deal makes, Najafi will jump into a shoot that will be in two parts: London will lense for four weeks with principals Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo.
The production will then pause before picking up again in February, this time with Butler, and shoot until April. The two-phase shoot is to accommodate the actor, who is currently filming Geostorm for Warner Bros. and Skydance.
Najafi directed a couple of episodes of Cinemax series Banshee but London will be his English-language feature debut. He is repped by UTA and Magnolia Entertainment. www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/troubled-olympus-has-fallen-sequel-736224?utm_source=twitter

We need like some prayer circle icons or something for this movie! Did anyone else think that article was worried weird or too hip? I had to read thru it twice to realize what they were saying. At this point I almost don't care who the director is, so long as this movie happens. Every actor has a comfort franchise to support them going to do other indie, smaller, or risky things. London should have been GB's top priority since it didn't get off the ground in the summer. This should be his baby first, chicks second

Ouch, hope everything sorts out just fine. If it was that bad, it must have been an extremely stressful time, and probably still is until everything is settled.

I think this may never come out but I believe Gerry and Antoine locked horns on OHF, that is way AF said he was not interested in doing LHF. I say this because Gerry said he wanted a scene left in and he paid with his own money to have it filmed. Sounds like he overrode what AF wanted in the film. Maybe that is why he is having trouble finding a director for this film with the credentials Antoine has. It was a successful movie so it makes me wonder why there is a problem.

I'm not sure GB ever wanted to do a sequel in the first place. He likes to do a character and then move on, so I don't think he's looking at this as a positive property. I don't know if there was some issues between him and AF, but there are definitely too many people at the top twiddling their thumbs. You would think following up a successful action film with another one would be a fun prospect, but everyone involved is dragging their feet and I think it is souring all the people who enjoyed Olympus and were clamoring for a sequel.
Sigh. gah
