Looks like Gerry is leaving Scotland
he is looking so wonderful thud but I guess that means he didn't stick around for hogmanay or doesn't it last for a few days? Hogmanay is the last day of the year and as night falls it becomes Auld Year's Nicht. The 1st and 2nd of January are Public Holidays but as the 1st fell on a Sunday this year that holiday is transferred to the 3rd. There are many things that take place on a local level, For instance, in Edinburgh they have the Loony Dook on Ne'erday (New Year's day) when people put on swimming costumes and run into the freezing sea. It's supposed to waken/sober you up.
