www.inverclydenow.com/news/local-news/scenes-for-gerard-butler-movie-filmed-at-cloch-lighthouse SCENES For Gerard Butler Movie Filmed At Cloch Lighthouse
FILMING for a movie starring Gerard Butler has taken place at Cloch Lighthouse in Gourock.
Keepers is a thriller about the disappearance of three lighthouse keepers in the Outer Hebrides more than 100 years ago. It also stars Peter Mullan.
Most of the filming took place using lighthouses in Galloway but the production came to Inverclyde to shoot some scenes as Cloch Lighthouse was considered more suitable for interior footage.
Butler was seen at the Cloch Road lighthouse yesterday (Tuesday).
He has starred in numerous movies including action films Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen; romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter with Jennifer Aniston; and historical battle epic 300, directed by Zack Snyder.
Butler, who is from Paisley, has filmed in Inverclyde before having starred with Emily Mortimer in the 2004 drama Dear Frankie which was set in Greenock.

It is strange that I feel a loss that the filming is ending. It was almost like I was there. Thanks ladies for all the great pics and news you brought here so I could feel this closeness. I can't wait to see this movie. I think Scotland will bring out the Gerry of old. Awesome!

Yes, they seem to be sad it has ended.I thought since this movie was smaller that we would have had zero pics, but I think we got more pics of Gerry with fans and behind the scenes than DOT.I hope this movie does well for all involved.Where to next Gerry?đ€

grouphug I wonder how long it will be before Gerry is filming again, He will be needing a good rest after doing 2 movies and back and then having at least two movies to do PR for Geostorm and Den of Thieves in January,2018. Lucky for us he does have Hunter Killer and Keepers releases to look forward to and hopefully ready for release in 2018. I think we won't be seeing Gerry filming again for at least 8 months but we will have plenty of premieres to look forward to. loveshower Thanks again ladies for all of the wonderful posts during DOT and The Keepers -

www.dgwgo.com/entertainment/finders-keepers-hollywood-galloway/FINDERS âKEEPERSâ AS HOLLYWOOD STARS FALL IN LOVE WITH GALLOWAY
The Hollywood Buzz hit Scotlandâs most southerly point earlier this year as Scottish movie stars Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan and a film crew arrived in the Rhins of Galloway to film their latest movie âKeepersâ. Now that filming has finished and normality settles back in, DGWGO speaks to some of the team at Mull of Galloway Lighthouse about their Hollywood experience. The story started in October 2016 the Mull of Galloway Trust was contacted by Alex Ashworth, Head of Production for Mad as Birds. Alex was looking for a particular location with a Lighthouse for a feature film called âKeepersâ inspired by the Flannan Isle Mystery. She said
âMull of Galloway is the perfect landscape for the project being on an isolated headland as it can be manipulated to look like an island.â
In November Alex Ashworth and her colleague, Andy Evans, visited the Mull of Galloway and met with Alison Smith and Alex Peebles from the Mull of Galloway Trust and Barry Miller from Northern Lighthouse Board. The location seemed ideal for their film location.
Alison Smith told DGWGO â Shortly after this meeting a press release was published by Mad as Birds about the film revealing that two of the leading actors were Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan. After many emails, telephone conversations and a few more location visits âMad as Birds Filmsâ and Kristoffer Nyholm ,the Director agreed that the Mull was their location of choice for the new movie. The Mull of Galloway Trust Directors were constrained by contractual arrangements and were unable to let anyone outside the Trust know about the film.â She continued âThe three Lighthouse Holiday Cottages were booked for exclusive use during March for the filming and the walled garden and the headland at the Mull of Galloway were chosen as scenes for the film. Filming took place at the Mull of Galloway where the Lighthouse and peninsula are used as the main locations for the film acting as Flannan and Eilean Mor Lighthouse in the Outer Hebrides. Engine Switch OnThe Director, Kristoffer Nyholm, became aware of the engines for the Fog Horn now being operational after 30 years and an additional scene in the film was created to incorporate the engine room and the engines running. Kittiwake House Holiday Cottage was used as a set and transformed from its modern condition into a very old Lightkeepersâ Cottage complete with Bakelite switches, dark paintwork and bunk beds! Lightkeeperâs Cottage and Puffin House were used by the cast and crew as the âgreen roomsâ for relaxing in-between shoots, make up and for refreshmentâs.â The Lightkeepersâ Walled Garden was transformed with the addition of beds containing kale, fruit trees and herbs and during filming there were around a dozen hens wandering around the garden and a Dog Chapel was erected near the helipad.
Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan, Connor Swindells and Gary Lewis have all been involved in filming âKeepersâ, a thriller written by Joe Bone and Celyn Jones. The story is based on the Flannan Isle mystery where three Keepers mysteriously vanished in 1900, however the film is set in 1939.
Members of the Mull of Galloway Trust were invited onto the set to meet the actors and the crew and the actors were happy to speak to visitors and staff both at the Mull of Galloway and it other parts of the Rhins of Galloway. Three members of the Mull of Galloway Trust â Alex Peebles, Maureen Chand and Marketing Officer Alison Smith were invited to be supporting artists and filmed for two days on the pier at Port Logan in rather chilly conditions.
On leaving the Mull of Galloway Gerard Butler wrote in the guest book at the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse:âWhat a breath-taking location to spend some time in. Warm and welcoming and dangerous and foreboding at the same time. Thanks for the hospitality and allowing us in to tell our story. I get to be a keeper at one of the most beautiful locations there isâ.
Filming has taken place in various other locations in the Rhins of Galloway including Port Logan, Corsewall Lighthouse, Killantringan Lighthouse and bay and a former cash and carry building in Stranraer was transformed into a film set. The local economy has benefitted from the making of this film and the area has gained lots of publicity via the press and media. This can only be good for the area and puts the Rhins of Galloway on the map.
The film is due for release next year.
